Our Reading Goals

Each year, I ask my students to set goals so they can grow as readers. Students sometimes have trouble generating ideas for this task.  Often they write very broad goals like, "I want to be a better reader."

This year we focussed on how to set more specific  and attainable goals. We listed a variety of goals on chart paper.  We brainstormed ways to achieve the goals and discussed how we could measure our progress.

Then each student chose a goal for fluency and for comprehension. They wrote about their goals and how they planned to achieve them. The cute book shape is available from The Teacher Wife.

The second page says, " In order to reach this goal,
I will use my comprehension strategies as I read."
